Balanced Diet Linked To Lower Risk Of High Blood Pressure During Pregnancy

As per new research, a diet rich in vegetables and fish is linked with a reduced risk of progressing high blood pressure and a connected condition called pre-eclampsia. These results were published in BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics. The findings also showed that a Western diet—which is rich in meat, potatoes, margarine, and white bread—increases the possibilities of developing these circumstances during pregnancy. The panel of scientists from the University of Bristol and Imperial College London reported that the women who are having a risk of developing these conditions and scheduling to conceive—or are already pregnant—to consume a well-balanced healthy diet to lower their risk.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) affects approximately 1 in 10 pregnancies. There are various types of hypertensive conditions that happen during pregnancy. The most normal is pre-existing high blood pressure that develops in pregnancy (known as gestational hypertension) and pre-eclampsia, which affects 2–8 in 100 women and arises from 20 Weeks of gestation.
